Alabama Legislative Internship - Paid

2010 Regular Session - January 7, 2010 to April 19, 2010

Montgomery, Alabama

Purpose: The program was established to include student interns in the state

legislature by allowing them to observe and participate in the legislative

process of state government.

Internship Requirements:

• Each intern must be a Junior or higher in college or in graduate school.

• They must either be Alabama residents or be attending a college or university in Alabama.

Pay: $3,600 per intern

Term: The term will coincide with the 2010 Regular Session. These are temporary positions for 30 hours per week located in Montgomery, Alabama.

Orientation and Enrichment Assistant

The primary duties of this internship are to assist with the coordination and planning of New Student Orientation and Learning Enrichment activities. The assistant will have an opportunity to gain skills in program coordination and event planning as well as assist in the development of learning enrichment activities. This position reports to the Coordinator of Learning Enrichment and Student Transitions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist coordinator with new student orientation activities.
  • Assist coordinator with coordination of tutoring sign-up.
  • Assist with campus events and programs as directed.
  • Be available to assist with day-of orientation events and activities.
  • Participate in departmental staff meetings.
  • Assist with answering calls and emails related to orientation activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience in event planning.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and desktop publishing software.
  • Some graphics design experience a plus.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies.
  • Must be able to work independently.

Salary Amount: $9.50 per hour M-F (maximum 20-25 hours a week)

Account Coordinator - Helena, AL

We are offering a paid internship opportunity for Fall 2009 at our headquarters for upcoming college Juniors/Seniors. This is a full time/40 hour per week role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage the order process for MailSouth's services to ensure proper advertising fulfillment.
  • Assist Sales in securing reservations of clients' products as necessary.
  • Assist Sales with Direct Mail orders; acting as a liaison with related departments as necessary.
  • Prepare notes, instructions and paperwork for Graphic Services to assemble final advertisements layouts for printing.
  • Assist Sales with graphic changes and obtaining final proofs within program planner deadlines; Verify ad proof against submitted copy, marking errors that appear on proof.
  • Serve as internal contact for assigned sales personnel to assist with issues relating to order/version changes, special billings, late orders and copy receiving

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be entering or currently in Junior or Senior year of college.
  • Business related major required.
  • Major in marketing/advertising a plus.
  • Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Related experience a plus.
  • Good computer skills needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills needed.

 Birmingham Zoo - Paid
The Birmingham Zoo and Red Mountain Theatre Company are seeking dynamic individuals for paid intern positions at the new Splash Show at the Sea Lion Pool.

Duties include but are not limited to: show and venue preparation and post performance re-set, crowd control, following scripted/outlined performance of the new Sea Lion Splash Show with two Zoo staff interpreters/animal handlers at minimum twice daily. In addition, animal presentation opportunities may be derived for other zoo areas.

Intern 1 must be available weekends beginning late April (weekends include Friday, Saturday and Sunday) to May 24, followed by five days a week from 9am to 4 pm through September 7. (Note: must be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout period).

Successful candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old, enthusiastic, energetic, with great people skills. An interest in animals and ecology coupled with a theatre or comedy/improvisation background is a plus. Candidates must enjoy working with people, animals, and have the ability to work well with others in a team environment.

National Internships

Great Swamp and Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge - paid
Great Swamp and Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) manage Intern Programs for qualified student applicants who are interested in refuge internships. Each year 4-12 paid internships are available for college students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in natural resources (typically 3 or 4 interns will be selected by Wallkill River NWR and 6 to 8 interns will be selected by Great Swamp NWR each year, but this may vary based on refuge needs). Internships are hosted during the summer months, but may also be hosted during the spring, fall or winter if a qualified applicant is interested. An intern is a college student or recent graduate that works full-time for 12 to 16 weeks to acquire experience or college credit. Interns may be provided free housing (based on availability).
