Impact Alabama is currently in the process of interviewing and hiring Regional Coordinators for our 2012-13 program year.  Positions begin in August 2012.  Please forward the information below to anyone who might be interested in applying to work with a nationally recognized nonprofit organization for a year of service in Alabama.

Individuals who work with Impact Alabama spend a year of service after graduation at a unique, nationally recognized organization fighting poverty in Alabama.  The Regional Coordinator position combines service with three of our nationally unique initiatives: FocusFirst, SaveFirst, and CollegeFirst.  FocusFirst trains college students to provide high-tech vision screenings and follow-up care to preschool-age children in Head Starts and day cares in low-income rural and urban areas throughout Alabama. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently selected FocusFirst from more than 800 nominations to receive a national award in recognition of its creativity and commitment to addressing local health concerns.  SaveFirst trains college students to provide free tax preparation services and opportunities for savings and economic improvement to working families in Alabama.  CollegeFirst trains college and graduate students to help implement a Pre-AP Summer Advanced Placement Institute for high school students in Birmingham, Huntsville, and Tuscaloosa.

Each initiative will allow you to work directly on college campuses and in communities statewide.  When you work with FocusFirst, you will learn how to use a technologically advanced photo optic-scan camera, lead college students on vision screenings in all 67 counties statewide, and assist in the analysis of screening results to ensure follow-up care is provided to all children who fail the screenings.  When you work with SaveFirst, you will become certified as a Volunteer Tax Preparer, recruit and train college students to prepare taxes and manage their service at community-based tax preparation sites, work with community partners to establish free tax sites statewide, and solidify service-learning opportunities on college campuses.  When you work with CollegeFirst, you will recruit and train students to tutor and mentor AP high school students and provide support to AP teachers in the implementation of a three-week summer program for AP students.

Positions with Impact Alabama last for one year, beginning July 30, 2012, and are based in Birmingham or Tuscaloosa, AL.  You will have the opportunity to travel statewide.  Impact Alabama is an AmeriCorps® Program.  You will receive the following:
