J. Danny Cooper
Montevallo alumnus J. Danny Cooper, a resident of Montgomery, serves as a trustee for the state at large. He will complete his12-year term on the board in 2020.
He is executive vice president of the Alabama Association of Realtors®, a position he has held since 1990. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and history as well as a master of education degree in administration from the University of Montevallo.
In 1990, he received the Nathalie Molton Gibbons Alumni Achievement Award and in 2003 was named Montevallo’s Distinguished Alumnus.
Cooper is a former school teacher, director of a university veteran’s affairs office, executive director of a state political party, the 1980 Alabama campaign manager for President Ronald Reagan, state director for a U.S. senator and a member of a governor’s cabinet.
In May 2004, he was inducted into the Dr. Almon R. “Bud” Smith Association Executive Leadership Society. He served in both 2002 and 2005 as the first Association executive to be appointed by a president of the 1,300,000-member National Association of Realtors® as one of eight committee liaisons. He has served on the NAR Executive Committee and board of directors and was inducted in 2007 into Omega Tau Rho, national honorary real estate society.
A member of numerous civic and professional organizations, Cooper is the Governor’s representative on The American Village Cornerstone of Liberty Commission and serves as a commissioner on the Alabama Historical Commission.
He is a member of the Alabama Council of Association Executives, a board member of the Alabama Civil Justice Reform Commission and serves on the Business Associations Tax Coalition. Cooper is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and is one of the Society’s APAC trustees.
