MSF Outstanding Motorcycle Safety Support - Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT)

The Alabama Motorcycle Safety Program (AMSP) named The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) Security Team, Montgomery, Alabama the 2007 Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Outstanding Motorcycle Safety Support Award.  In response to a request from the Alabama Traffic Safety Center, ALDOT emptied, resurfaced, and provided access to an existing area within a secure/fenced piece of ALDOT property in March 2007.  Mr. Thomas Smith, Chief of Security, ALDOT, assured the AMSP that ALDOT would be ready to assist at any time.  This was the beginning a professional relationship that has resulted in ALDOT Montgomery becoming the most utilized satellite training site within the AMSP.

The training room is located inside the secured Headquarters facility on the northwest side of Coliseum Boulevard.  Upon arrival, AMSP RiderCoaches contact the Security Desk and are greeted by the on-duty security professional at the rear entrance of the facility.  The security professionals do not only secure access but also ensure a functioning video and audio equipment will be available for use.

The training range is located at a secured site on the southeast side of Coliseum Boulevard.  On Saturday mornings, the security professionals greet the RiderCoaches at the gate and ensures access without delay.  After granting access, the security staff ensures coolers are loaded with ice for drinks.  Prior to lunch, the security staff always comes out to ensure any additional needs are met.  During the lunch period, security staff ensures the AMSP trailer and motorcycles are undisturbed and opens the gate when students return from lunch.    The ALDOT Security Team was honored by the Alabama Motorcycle Safety Program during a presentation held at the ALDOT Motorcycle Training location on October 21, 2008.

MSF Outstanding Motorcycle Safety Support - Elton Roberts

The Alabama Motorcycle Safety Program (AMSP) presented Mr. Elton Roberts the 2007 MSF Outstanding Motorcycle Safety Support Award.  The efforts of Mr. Roberts, in support of military and public Motorcycle Safety Programs in Alabama, were no less than outstanding and worthy of recognition.  Prior to mobilization to Kuwait and while activated in the U.S. Army, Elton was instrumental in planning, developing and implementing a Department of Defense Motorcycle safety program at Hanson Reserve Center, Birmingham, Alabama.  This was in addition to his routine daily duties and assignments.  These efforts served to highlight the necessity and importance of a viable motorcycle safety program to command level officers.  These officers immediately mandated training to all riding soldiers.  Mr. Roberts was honored by the AMSP during a presentation held at the Alabama Traffic Safety Center on February 21, 2009.
