MONTEVALLO—Bryn Chancellor and Ted Metz, both members of the faculty at the University of Montevallo, have been awarded individual fellowship grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. These grants are given to outstanding artists who create important works of art and make valuable contributions to the state in the disciplines of arts administration, crafts, dance, design, media/photography, music, literature, theater and visual arts. They are based on merit of work, career achievement, professional development and service to the state. Funds may be used to create art, improve skills or otherwise enhance their artistic careers.

Chancellor, an assistant professor of English and creative writing, was awarded a fellowship in literary arts. Her short stories have been published in national and regional literary journals, and she is currently completing a novel and a short-fiction collection. She has been involved in directing the Montevallo Literary Festival since 2009 and was recently honored with the 2014 Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award from Poets & Writers.

Metz, a professor of art at UM since 1973, specializes in sculpture. In addition to teaching, he has a number of large public installations in the Central Alabama area including one on the University of Montevallo campus. His use of a variety of materials, his technical skills and his serious approach result in unique and thought-provoking creations. He frequently involves his students in his projects, giving them experience in the many facets of community art.
