Anagama kiln firing at University of Montevallo

WHAT:
Firing of UM’s unique 40-foot anagama kiln

WHEN:
Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 12:30 p.m. with a sake toast -
UM president John W. Stewart becomes only the 2nd president to light this kiln.

WHERE:
Near the tennis courts on the UM campus (call for directions)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Many opportunities for dramatic photos and video footage.
Dr. Scott Meyer and his ceramics students, along with 18 Alabama high school students, will work to load the kiln, build the fire and continue to stoke it to the target temperature of 2,400 degrees F. until Sunday, Nov. 11. After a week’s cool-down, the kiln will be unloaded the following Sunday (Nov. 18) beginning at 10 a.m.
