Local student honored for service

MONTEVALLO—The University of Montevallo recently saw its first cohort of graduates wearing service cords walk across the stage at spring commencement.

Joanna Hawkins of Birmingham, Carmen Lambert of Trussvillle, Molly McConville of Birmingham and Michelle Nash of Bessemer were four of eleven recent graduates at UM who were honored for exemplary service to the community. Hawkins, Lambert and McConville, who all received bachelor’s degrees in social work, and Nash, who received a bachelor’s degree in sociology, graduated with service cords recognizing 300 or more hours of community service and a grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Hawkins graduated cum laude, and Nash was recognized for superior academic achievement.
